While Aer Lingus is discussing an alliance with other airlines, one of its cabin crew, Orla MacCarvill, was flying solo at Elm Park last week. The 12 handicapper continued where she left off last season by shooting 43 points to win the weekly singles competition. Four pars and two birdies on the front nine plus four pars and one birdie on the homeward journey did the trick. McCarvill, who is also a talented tennis player, last year won the professional's (Seamus Green) prize, the PGA Tankard, and was runner-up in the senior matchplay trophy, while the previous year she won the captain's prize. Ann Clancy (23) just pipped Helen Cummiskey (19) in class two while Yvonne Burke had her handicap reduced from 31 to 28 in winning class three with 42 points.
