Newbridge College 6 The High School 0Newbridge College earned a place in the quarter-final thanks to a fine first-half display at Templeville Road yesterday. Outhalf David Aherne converted two penalty goals to put the Co Kildare school through.

Aherne struck in the 20th and 40th minutes, despite kicking into the gale. But Ben Cantan was narrowly wide with a penalty opportunity for High School three minutes before half-time.

High School improved after the break and there were good displays from interprovincial scrumhalf Matthew Darcy and outhalf Stephen Duggan. But Newbridge defended well and Gary Delahunt and Fionn Carr were prominent for the winners in a close second half.

The winners were pinned back for most of the opening half as High School created good attacking moves from set-pieces but were repelled each time.
