THE ALBANIAN Prime Minister, Aleksander Meksi, will make proposals today which he hopes will allow his country to be reinstated into international soccer.

FIFA suspended Albania when the sports ministry ordered the suspension of Albanian Football Association general secretary, Eduard Dervishi, and dissolved the executive committee.

The FIFA ban has put Albania's World Cup group nine qualifying match against Northern Ireland in Belfast on December 14th in jeopardy.

The Northern Ireland FA have urged FIFA to clarify the situation by Tuesday.

A statement from the prime minister's office said: "The prime minister will propose to the Council of Ministers an annulment of decisions relating to the suspensions of various soccer federation officials.

"The government pledges to take, the necessary steps to overcome present difficulties so that Albanian soccer can remain on the international map," the statement added.

Meksi appealed to the soccer federation and the state sports secretariat to put aside their differences. He also recommended that new executive committee elections be held in February.

Albanian sports secretary, Marjeta Pronjari, suspended Dervishi for consistently postponing new executive committee elections, breaking Albania's civil law.

But FIFA said it did not recognise the suspensions and still considered Dervishi and the dissolved executive as their only official contacts in Albania.
