THE scene is set for what should be a thrilling showdown between a vastly experienced Munster and the young tigers of Leinster in the final of the men's Senior Interprovincial Championship following an exciting second day's play at Mount Juliet yesterday.

Both scored convincing victories over Ulster and Connacht respectively to set up today's shoot out that pits holders Munster against a team fielding six newcomers.

Munster, who have won three of the last four titles, will not have things their own way against a team that is showing very consistent form. In the 13 matches played yesterday, Leinster dropped just half a point. That they even did that was a surprise.

Top singles player Jody Fanagan, who was in devastating form the previous day when beating former Walker Cup star Garth McGimpsey, was held to a draw by the English based Sean Horkan, who was runner up in the West of Ireland.

For the second day running Garth McGimpsey found out what it was like to play well and still lose. In the top singles against fellow international John Morris he lost by one hole.

Morris fell two down early on, and then pulled his game together in splendid fashion to win the 7th, 8th and 9th to go one up. However, he lost his touch momentarily and surrendered the 10th with a bogey.

McGimpsey won the 12th and 13th to go two up. But then Morris came back to take the next hole with a birdie. The Douglas man was successful again on the next hole and it was all square with two to play.

Morris claimed another birdie on the 17th to clinch the match, but not before he experienced a slight scare. He was forced to recover on the last after making life a little difficult on himself, but he halved the hole after and down.
