Bogus amateur jockey Angel Jacobs yesterday had his licence withdrawn and was disqualified as clear leader in the Bollinger amateur riders series for the champion amateur jockey.

The decision by the Licensing Committee of the Jockey Club to take away his licence came after the jockey admitted he was riding under a false identity and was in fact Angel Monserrate, a former professional jockey and work rider in the United States.

A Puerto Rican national, Monserrate was banned in the United States for failing a drugs test in 1995. The following year he apparently rode as an amateur under the name of Carlos Castro but was soon exposed.

As Jacobs, Monserrate had his first ride in Britain in January and registered his first winner on Bold Faith for Newmarket trainer Willie Musson at Newbury on June 11th.

He has had a total of 21 rides with five winners during his time in this country, although an objection was yesterday lodged against his latest success, at Beverley on August 13th, by the Secretary to the Jockey Club Disciplinary Committee.
