Less than 24 hours after hinting he might miss next week's US Masters to spend time with his family, Canada's Stephen Ames has decided to play at Augusta National.

"It was something I had to talk to my family about before I made that decision," Ames told a Canadian radio station. "It was something we had to collaborate on, both with the kids and my wife. We are going to go.

"But I'd rather go on vacation, to be truthful," added the 41-year-old in an interview with The Fan 590, an all-sports radio station.

Ames earned a three-year exemption for the Masters by romping to a six-shot victory in the Players Championship at Sawgrass on Sunday, but had already planned a family holiday in his native Trinidad.

As he basked in the afterglow of his second PGA Tour title that evening, he told reporters nothing was final but that his family always came first. "My kids have just come out for their spring break and we had plans to go somewhere else," said the Canadian, who has played only once at the Masters, tying for 45th last year.
