WITH THE recent rain keeping the going on the soft side of good, there are competitive fields at Goodwood this afternoon for the final day of the three-day meeting, featuring two listed races.

Having already had a couple of runs this season, Ben Hanbury's Amrak Ajeeb should be ready to take the first of them, the Royal Sussex Regiment Festival Stakes.

The five-year old ran a great race last time out behind Ali-Royal, who has since franked the form behind First Island at Newbury when beaten only two lengths and a neck. Over an extra furlong and with proven form on ground with cut, Amrak Ajeeb can swoop late under his regular pilot Mark Rimmer.

David Elsworth has his string in fine form at the moment and his grey filly Supercal can deliver the goods in the Conqueror Stakes.

She finished with a flourish last time out to capture another listed prize and carrying only a 3lb penalty for that, the three-year old can come in again.

Supercal looks a safer conveyance here than the headstrong Gretel or likely favourite Balalaika, who could find the mile trip too sharp.

The Whitcombe handler looks to have a good chance of a double in the shape of Willow Dale in the concluding race on the card, the Racing Channel Apprentice Stakes.

With the services of Peter Murphy booked, the filly can record the win that she promised was in the pipeline when a well-backed second at Lingfield last time.

Her handicap mark has been dropping recently and that performance proved she was no back-number. From a favourable draw today, Willow Dale can put up a bold show.
