Women's Tour: Annika Sorenstam may be cutting back on her schedule, but it isn't reducing her chances of winning tournaments.
On Sunday last, the Swede claimed her 51st win on the US LPGA Tour - birdieing four of her final nine holes to win the Corning Classic - to reaffirm her position as the world's undisputed queen of professional golf.
In fact, Sorenstam's strike-rate is quite remarkable. From six appearances on the US LPGA Tour this season, this was her third title win.
"I'm very, very pleased and what can I say more than I love to win," remarked Sorenstam, who finished on 18-under-par 270, two ahead of Michelle Estill and Vicki Goetze-Ackerman.
Sorenstam had started the day one stroke behind Estill but trailed by four shots at one stage on the back nine.
"I think it got to the point where I was totally frustrated with myself," claimed Sorenstam, who birdied the ninth, 10th, 12th, 14th and 16th without dropping a shot after bogeying the sixth hole.
"I cherish every win. I work very hard for every win, and they all have a special place in my heart. Who knows, I might never win again, you never know. You can never take anything for granted, but I do love what I do, and I love to compete."
Sorenstam confirmed that she was cutting down on her playing schedule this year.
She admitted: "It gives me less chance to win, but I feel like if I have more quality than quantity, I'll be happy."
