Sports Digest/ Tennis: Yet another Sorensen is poised to throw in his lot with Tennis Ireland's Davis Cup plans.

Louk Sorensen, youngest son of Sean, is hopeful of being given the all-clear by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) later this afternoon to become part of the Irish set-up and thus follow in the footsteps of his illustrious father and older brother Kevin.

The name of Sorensen has been synonymous with Irish tennis for decades. Sean was part of one of the most famous Irish tennis partnerships with Matt Doyle in the 1980s, the match against Arthur Ashe's US side featuring John McEnroe, Peter Fleming, Elliot Teltscher - at the packed RDS proving a defining occasion in Irish sporting history.

Louk (19) is currently involved on the ITF circuits. Like his brother Kevin, he is German born and seems poised to link up with the Irish Davis Cup squad ahead of the crucial qualifiers in Dublin's Fitzwilliam LTC next summer.

"We have made a significant case to have Louk declared eligible for Ireland," said Tennis Ireland CEO Des Allen. "I am reasonably certain that it will work out favourably."

Formula One: Former Renault chief designer Mark Smith has joined Jordan as technical director, the Silverstone-based Formula One team said yesterday.

Smith helped design Jordan's first Formula One car in 1991 and was chief designer there before moving to Benetton, now Renault, in 2001.

Meanwhile, Formula One's governing body confirmed yesterday that 10 teams, the same number as this year, had entered the 2005 world championship.

The International Automobile Federation (FIA) listed "Jaguar Racing", bought by Austrian billionaire Dietrich Mateschitz and renamed Red Bull on last month's deadline day, as one of the 10.

An FIA spokesman said the reference to Jaguar was merely procedural. A change of name has been applied for. Troubled Minardi and Jordan were also included. Neither they, nor Red Bull, had entered any drivers but they have until 4 p.m. on March 3rd to do so.
