WALSH CUP: Antrim 1-13 Laois 0-14ANTRIM JUST held off the challenge of Laois at Rathdowney yesterday.
The home took the lead with a point by Eamon Jackman and led by three after 10 minutes. Antrim opened their account with a point by PJ O’Connell and Paul Shields cut the deficit to a single point by the end of the first quarter.
Michael McEvoy scored two points from play before receiving a yellow card but Antrim closed the half with points by Shields leaving them trailing by 0-7 to 0-9.
Antrim got a gift of a goal after 55 minutes when a high ball from Brendan Herron deceived the goalkeeper and dipped into the net. Shields put Antrim three ahead and they hung on for a quarter-final spot against Kilkenny.
