IN AN article published in The Irish Times on 13th December 1995 headed "Ring instinct is to run to safer ground" it was suggested that a lawyer, Jimmy Binns, who primarily practises in Philadelphia, had acted in a court case for the boxer Steve Collins whose interest he had disregarded and that it was unethical and improper for Mr Binns to have represented Mr Collins in view of the fact that he was Counsel for the WBA.

On further investigation by The Irish Times it has now been established that a court document from the US District Court recording that Mr Binns had represented Mr Collins was erroneous and the result of a clerical error. The Irish Times accepts the allegations were therefore untrue and without foundation since Mr Binns never represented Mr Collins. The Irish Times recognises the distress and upset caused to Mr Binns and unreservedly withdraws the allegation and apologises to him.
