IRELAND'S FIBA Junior World Cup aspirations evaporated in the heat of Buenos Aires yesterday, when they were totally out classed in the semi final by the hosts and holders, Argentina, who will meet France in the final.

Having convincingly seen off the challenges of both Portugal and Scotland in their Pool Four matches, Ireland had gone into yesterday's game in a confident state of mind. But in the event they failed to capitalise on potential scoring opportunities.

Argentina scored on their first really telling attack into Irish territory after only 10 minutes. And the home side, who now look on stream to repeat the success attained in this competition last year in Italy, never let Ireland back into the game after that.

Throughout the week, the Irish had coped well with the heat - around 30 degrees. But yesterday, the temperature began to take its toll, and Ireland failed to handle the power of Argentina in the second half.
