The meeting of these two Leinster Senior League teams produced an explosive encounter at Moortown in Mulhuddart yesterday with two penalties from Cherry Orchard defender Chris Madden earning the Intermediate Cup holders a place in the next round.

Dublin referee Declan Hanney produced a total of eight yellow and three red cards yesterday and Cherry Orchard's opening score was tinged with a certain degree of controversy after centre-forward Derek Smith looked to have handled the ball at the edge of the penalty area.

Expecting a whistle, Ashtown stalled allowing Michael Horan a free run on goal. Goalkeeper Garry Lester then pulled Horan down and duly received his marching orders.

Madden converted with four minutes to go in the first half, but Cherry Orchard then had Will Smith sent off for a second bookable offence and matters deteriorated further when Hanney sent Ashtown substitute Barry McGlynn to the line after a scuffle with a Cherry Orchard player.
