Galway Hurling: Athenry will play Portumna in this year's Galway senior final after the two sides defeated Gort and Turloughmore, respectively, yesterday.
Three-time All-Ireland club champions Athenry saw off Gort's challenge to win by by 0-18 to 2-8 as Gort failed to capitalise on the wind advantage of the first half and they trailed by 0-6 to 0-5 at the break.
Despite Gort scoring two goals in the second half through Ollie Fahy and Enda Linnane, Athenry ensured the victory with Diarmuid Burns scoring four points and substitute Aidan Poniard three.
Portumna's 2-14 to 2-8 win over Turloughmore was achieved despite the defending champions playing over half the game with 14 men after Davy Canning was sent off after 23 minutes.
First-half goals from Andy Smith and Damien Hayes put Portumna on their way and, despite goals from Darren O'Shaughnessy and Francis Forde, they held on for their final berth.
