Thomas Barr and Andrew Coscoran both concluded their world championships campaign at the semi-final on Sunday evening in Eugene, Oregon.
Barr, who is not long back from an ankle injury that he picked up before June’s Irish championships, finished fifth in his 400m hurdles semi-final in a time of 50.08, good enough only for 19th of the competitors left at that stage. It was a frustrating run for the Waterford man after the Rio 2016 finalist clocked a season’s best 49.15 in his heat.
Coscoran, running in the 1500m, also qualified for the semi-final following a season’s best time as he clocked 3:36.36 in his heat. The semi-final was a much slower affair and his 12th placed finish in a time of 3:44.66 was not good enough for a final berth.
Both athletes now turn their attention to the European championships due to be held in Munich next month.

Ireland are next in action in Oregon on Wednesday with runners in the men’s 800m heats and the men’s and women’s 400m semi-finals.
