Attraction saunters home

Aidan O'Brien might have an Irish Derby contender on his hands after Five Dynasties picked up yesterday's King Edward VII Stakes but even that Group Two success couldn't compete with Attraction's exhibition in the Coronation Stakes.

She made it eight wins from eight career starts with another all-the-way saunter that had plenty scratching their heads to try to remember a better filly over a mile.

Certainly very few have continually confounded the critics like Attraction has and after competing the triple crown of the English and Irish Guineas as well as the Coronation there was much anticipation as to where she will be aimed next.

Trainer Mark Johnston was more than happy to live for the moment though after a build-up that had tested his nerves to the limit.

"I knew if she was 100 per cent she would win and if she didn't it would be my fault. It's a great relief, he said." When pressed Johnston admitted to considering the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket but stressed that he is keenly looking forward to taking on the colts as well.

They won't include Five Dynasties who is likely to be aimed next at the Irish Derby in eight days time after routing what looked a weak field in the King Edward.

The 11 to 4 favourite quickened four lengths clear of Elshadi with John Oxx's Barati back in third to indicate a colt still improving.

"He is very much on the upgrade. First time out at Lingfield a combination of fitness and soft ground didn't help him but he was much better in the French Derby," O'Brien said.

"His brother (Roosevelt) was third in the Derby last year and he would definitely have to be a possible. Being realistic Yeats will be lucky to be back this year so we will look forward to next year with him," he added.

O'Brien's Two Miles West started favourite for the Queen's Vase but had no answer to the Godolphin colt Duke Of Venice who careered away in the final furlong to provide Frankie Dettori with a fifth win of the week.

A huge gamble on the Queen's horse Promotion in the Wolferton Stakes was foiled by Red Fort who cantered up under Philip Robinson.
