News round-up: Australia have identified the developing axis between Charlie Hodgson and Henry Paul as a weakness in England's defence they will try to exploit in tomorrow's Cook Cup clash at Twickenham.

Led by defence captain Joe Worsley, England conceded little time or space to the South Africans last weekend, at least until the game was well in the bag.

But Jones effectively dismissed the South Africans as naive for failing to adapt to northern hemisphere conditions and insisted the new-look England would receive a significant first Test under pressure tomorrow.

"Hodgson is very different defensively to Jonny Wilkinson. He plays much flatter to the line and makes the play," said Jones. "Hodgson tends to be like Stephen Larkham, he is always first receiver and changes the way England play by playing much flatter.

"It does make England a more potent side but it has its inherent risks. If you are not getting fast ball then obviously the defence can deny you time and space.

"Henry Paul still hasn't played a high-quality Test match under pressure, where the ball you are getting is a little bit more neutralised than it was on Saturday (against South Africa).

"England are a very good defensive side but they definitely have some frailties. Hopefully if we get good ball we'll be able to expose them."

France outhalf Frederic Michalak, meanwhile, will switch to scrumhalf for tomorrow's Test against New Zealand in Paris following the withdrawal of Jean-Baptiste Elissalde with a rib injury.

Julien Peyrelongue is promoted from the bench to start at number 10 with Agen scrumhalf Mathieu Barrau added to the replacements.

Injuries and absences have forced coach John Kirwan to reshuffle his squad for Italy's Test against the United States in Biella, also tomorrow.

With centres Andrea Masi and Gonzalo Canale both injured, and flankers Mauro Bergamasco and Aaron Persico and second rows Marco Bortolami and Santiago Dellape committed to playing for their French clubs, Kirwan has opted for a relatively young side for the game.

Connacht have made five changes from the side that defeated the Ospreys last weekend for Sunday's clash with the Gwent Dragons at the Sportsground (k.o. 1.05). Justin Meagher comes in on the wing for his first start of the season. There are four changes in the pack, three in the front row. Dan McFarland, John Fogarty and Stephen Knoop come in while John Muldoon starts at blindside flanker.
