AUSTRALIA HAVE suffered a blow ahead of their tour of Ireland and England after wicketkeeper Brad Haddin was ruled out with an elbow injury.
The 32-year-old first picked up the injury in scoring a century in a one-day game against New Zealand and it flared up again during the recent World Twenty20.
He will miss the one-day clash against Ireland on June 17th and the five ODIs against England but hopes to be back for the Test series against Pakistan later in the summer. His place has gone to Tasmanian gloveman Tim Paine.
Meanwhile, Railway Union and North County kept up their unbeaten starts in the Leinster Senior League as Division One starts to take shape, writes Emmet Riordan.
Railway made it five out of five on Saturday and in the process left Clontarf’s hopes of retaining their title on very shaky ground as they lost by nine wickets at Park Avenue.
Andrew Poynter continued his fine start to the season, making 97 in Clontarf’s total of 230. But a second unbeaten century of the summer from opening bat Kenny Carroll (106no) added to contributions from Tom Fisher (58) and Graham McDonnell (44no) helped Railway home with six overs to spare.
North County made short work of Malahide in Balrothery, bowling their Fingal rivals out for 123 before Andre Botha (45) and Richie Lawrence (36) helped them secure a six-wicket win.
