AUXERRE COACH Guy Roux, vandalised a car belonging to radio station France Inter because he claimed they were critical of him, a spokesperson for the station said yesterday.

The incident between the station and Roux is now closed, according to a radio journalist, as the coach later admitted he had gone a little too far and agreed to repair the damage.

Late on Wednesday afternoon, before the Auxerre-Paris Saint Germain fixture, Roux went over to a France Inter car parked behind the press tribune at the Abbe-Deschamps stadium while a technician was taking gear out of the car and kicked the doors before breaking the aerial.

The station had been critical of Roux's comments about the Austrian referee at the Auxerre-Borussia Dortmund European Cup quarter-final, second leg last Wednesday.

After the match, Roux said on French television that he regretted an Austrian referee had been chosen for a match involving a German club. He then added in an oblique reference to the Second World War: "You know, I was born in 1938 (i.e. the date of the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany)."
