Bailey can add to tally of wins

THE decision to leave Newmarket for Tarporley, near Chester, is one many would consider unwise

THE decision to leave Newmarket for Tarporley, near Chester, is one many would consider unwise. With its state-of-the-art facilities for toning the thoroughbred, Headquarters provides the perfect town for a trainer to make his base.

It is now four years since Alan Bailey made the move from Suffolk to Cheshire, and it is not one he has been made to regret, as his steadily-rising totals of 24, 30 and 35 over the last three years testify.

Now on the 16-winner mark for the current season, Bailey can take the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside Handicap Stakes with Komreyev Dancer today.

The four-year-old gelding showed fair form when campaigned on the all-weather earlier in the year, but it was when returned to turf that he started winning again.

Sent for a handicap over this course and distance, he was taken to the front by John Carroll over a furlong from home and ran on well to defeat Carlito Brigante by a length-and-a-half.

Next time he finished last of 15 in a handicap at Chester but bounced back to form at Ripon on his most recent outing, holding Micky Hammond's Sarmatian by a neck.

He has to carry top-weight of 10st here, but approaches the race in good form and his previous knowledge of the Beverley terrain will stand him in good stead.

John Carroll once again takes the ride and Komreyev Dancer is napped to win again.

At Kempton, in-form Chris Wall's Admirals Flame can take full advantage of a fair mark in the Allied Dunbar Handicap.

The Doulab gelding ran a fine second to Amrak Ajeeb at Newbury last time, going to the front over two from home but unable to quicken in the closing stages, and can go one better.

Hamilton's Saints and Sinners fixture always provides worthwhile adult entertainment and Geoff Wragg's Tatika can justify the journey from Newmarket to Glasgow in the Saints and Sinners Challenge Cup (Handicap).

Twice a winner on the all-weather at Southwell earlier in the year, Tatika has failed to match that form on his two subsequent starts on turf but did well to finish fifth to Bollin Frank at Haydock last time after losing ground at the start.
