A former police officer, charged jointly with trainer Kim Bailey, appeared in court yesterday on deception and burglary charges.

Private investigator Robert Harrington, 57, formerly with Thames Valley Police and National Hunt trainer Bailey are jointly charged with conspiracy to burgle the property of jockey Norman Williamson. Harrington is further accused of attempting to deceive jockey Jamie Osborne out of £500.

Bailey, 45, of Old Manor Stables, Upper Lambourn, Berkshire, was not present at Bow Street Magistrates' Court, central London, to hear the case adjourned to January 28th, 1999.

His greatest success as a trainer came when saddling Master Oats to take the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
