ALL-IRELAND IHC SEMI-FINALS: Ballymartle 1-10 Padraig Pearses 0-10:CORK CHAMPIONS Ballymartle survived a late comeback from 14-man Pardaig Pearses to qualify for the All-Ireland intermediate hurling final. The Munster champions did enough to advance despite going scoreless for the last 17 minutes.
A goal from Jamie Dwyer after 12 minutes proved crucial to the Cork side’s victory, but Pearses’ over-reliance on Thomas Flannery – who hit all 10 of their points – proved their downfall.
Pearses had wing-back Tommy McDonagh sent off after 12 minutes after a clash with Darren McCarthy, but despite this they only went in 1-7 to 0-5 behind at half-time. Three points in a row from Ballymartle saw them move eight points clear by the 14th minute of the second-half, but five consecutive frees from Flannery saw the Galway champions pull to within one score.
