Barcelona and Marseille maintained 100 per cent records in their respective European Champions League groups last night.
However, last season's Ukrainian semi-finalists Dynamo Kyiv and Portugal's Boavista look dead and buried after just two games.
Marseille came away with a superb 2-1 victory away to Croatia Zagreb. The opening goal came after five minutes. Stephane Dalmat, tipped by many as a future French international, did well to find Ibrahima Bakayoko 12 yards out and the Cote d'Ivoire international finished clinically.
Eventually, substitute Tomislav Sokota conjured up an equaliser with an improvised left-foot cross-shot after 66 minutes.
After Bakayoko's early strike Marseille, depleted by the absence from the starting line-up of Fabrizio Ravanelli, Florian Maurice and Christophe Dugarry, looked toothless although eventually Ravanelli came off the bench in a bid to add more bite.
And Marseille reaped the reward with 13 minutes remaining when Dalmat crossed to former Blackburn star Sebastien Perez, who scored with a superb angled volley.
Barcelona took control of Group B with their second win in a week. The Catalan giants were in unforgiving mood at the Nou Camp, winning 4-2 and were 2-0 up within 10 minutes against Italy's Fiorentina.
The first goal came from Portuguese winger Luis Figo after a mazy dribble after seven minutes and three minutes later Spanish international Luis Enrique made it 2-0.
However, Fiorentina's Argentinean striker Gabriel Batistuta reduced arrears in the second period after a well-worked freekick only for Brazilian playmaker Rivaldo to restore the two-goal margin for Barca with a penalty.
And Rivaldo made it 4-1 with a surging run and deft finish. Italian international Enrico Chiesa grabbed a late consolation for Fiorentina.
In Group C, 1997 winners Borussia Dortmund boosted their cause with a 3-1 home win over Boavista, who look doomed after two defeats in two games.
Also in pool C, Norway's Rosenborg Trondheim remained just ahead of the Germans at the top-of-the-table after a 2-2 draw with Feyenoord.
In Group A, last season's semi-finalists Dynami Kyiv are looking out for the count after a second defeat. Derhii Rebrov put the Ukrainians 1-0 up with a 68th-minute penalty in the lion's den of Lazio's Olympic Stadium but goals in quick succession from Paulo Negro and Chilean hitman Marcelo Salas, a second half substitute, ensured a 2-1 win for Lazio.
Last week's Slovenian giant-killers Maribor put up another brave display only for Germany's Bayer Leverkusen to snatch the spoils with two late goals.
