MARTIN BAYLY led Home Farm's dramatic second half comeback as they wiped out Temple United's two goal lead to win an exciting FAI Cup first round tie at Turner's Cross, yesterday.
Bayly operated on the right wing in the first half, but assumed control of the game when he took a more central role in the second period. His influence was decisive as Home Farm succeeded in maintaining constant pressure on Temple's defence.
Temple had reason to look back with satisfaction on their brave efforts. They were sharp and determined in the opening period.
They came close to creating a shock when Kevin Kearney almost snatched, a third goal just before half time.
Temple's first half effort were fired by a stunning goal after 19 minutes. Pat Keane played a major role, racing clear of the Home Farm defence to deliver a right wing cross which was deflected by Owen Heary to the feet of Kearney and he calmly scored.
Temple increased their lead within four minutes when an accurate tree from Kieran Fitzgerald caused Home Farm trouble. Kearney jumped with goalkeeper Brian O'Shea for the hall which fell kindly for Anthony Elliott who turned it into the empty net.
Bayly succeeded in firing Home Farm to produce a more competitive second half performance. Against a tiring Temple, they played at such a pace that the non league team found it difficult to cope.
Once their defence was breached, Temple's cause was a lost one.
Ian Woods pointed the way with a powerful header after 57 minutes and Derek Gough had Home Farm level two minutes later. It was left to substitute Fran Hitchcock to head the winning goal, 20 minutes from time.
