Cork City 3 Longford Town 2:Longford Town shocked Cork City with two goals within the first 11 minutes - including a superb 25-yard volley from Sean Prunty - of a cracking tie at Turner's Cross last night. But their high-powered start only served to fire Cork to their best performance of the season as they recovered to win three precious points.
Cork's response to Longford's dynamic start was full of good football and aggressive finishing. They were quick and effective in their passing, busy in their support play.
Denis Behan gave direction and purpose to their football and was close to a first-half hat-trick. He claimed Cork's first goal in the 18th minute when he controlled a low cross, turned quickly and fired home from 12 yards.
Behan had Cork level in the 38th minute when Liam Kearney's shot from Cillian Lordan's cross fell kindly and he finished smartly and Leon McSweeney secured their win when he fired home from Joe Gamble's cross after 64 minutes.
