The Best Cup brought its usual list of hard-earned wins and hard luck stories when the first round was completed last week. Clontarf - 4-1 down to Elm Park - came through in the second leg and now renew the Meath/Dublin rivalry with a meeting with Kilcock in the next round. Black Bush - 31/2-11/2 down after the home leg - beat Balbriggan at the first tie hole in Balbriggan and now meet Beaverstown. The Island also had to go to a play-off against Kilternan. They looked a safe bet for round two when they led 4 1/2-1/2 but after a similar result for Kilternan at home, the Island won on a tie hole.
