Not surprisingly, the big three - aka Darren Clarke, Lee Westwood and Colin Montgomerie - dominate the betting for this week's British Masters at the Forest of Arden. The main contenders for this season's Order of Merit award are all priced as 10 to 1 joint favourites for the title over a track where Montgomerie once won the English Open.
The Scot showed signs in Crans over the weekend that he is on the way back to form. But can he justify a share of favouritism? The tendency for a couple of double bogeys to creep on to his card suggests he may need another week or two to fully regain his confidence.
These days, Clarke seems to be knocking on the door whenever he plays - four top five finishes in his last five tournaments - and, of the trio, probably deserves the favourite's tag. Last year's winner, Greg Turner, is priced at 33 to 1, but the best value could be Ian Woosnam at 20 to 1. The Welshman knows and likes the course near Coventry (he won the English Open here in 1993), while the each-way saver bet goes to Sam Torrance who is keenly priced at 33 to 1.
