For once, Colin Montgomerie might not represent value for money. The burden of winning on home soil is something that has proved too much for Scottish professionals down the years (no Scot has managed to win a tournament there in over 40 years) - and if Monty is the man most likely to end that barren spell, the class field for this week's Standard Life Loch Lomond means that better value for money can be found elsewhere.
For instance, the boy wonder himself Sergio Garcia is priced at 20 to 1 to make it back-to-back wins on the European Tour while both Retief Goosen, number two in the moneylist, and Darren Clarke return to action after missing the Irish Open. The last time Clarke spent a few days practising at Royal Portrush he returned to competition by taking the English Open. Can lightning strike twice?
An interesting competitor in this week's field is American Glen Day who learned his craft on the European Tour. Back in those days, he was known as "All Day" because of his slow, methodical routine but his success on the US Tour has seen him renamed "Pay Day" - and at odds of 33 to 1 we'll go with him this week.
