SCOTLAND'S tour management have opted not to replace injured out half Craig Chalmers whose hamstring strain has ruled him out of the rest of the six match tour to South Africa.

"We reckoned that we were well enough covered," said Scotland team manager Doug Morgan.

Morgan had originally asked for Ally Donaldson and Bryan Redpath to be flown out to replace Chalmers and the other tour injury victim Rowen Shepherd.

But Morgan's request was met with the news that both stand by players were unavailable because of injury.

Shepherd has now been replaced by Graeme Beveridge, the Boroughmuir and Scotland under 21 scrum half, who arrived in South Africa yesterday to join the Scots' tour party.

This will be Beveridge's second visit to South Africa as he played for Scotland last summer in the Student World Cup played at Pretoria and Johannesburg.

Then he partnered Duncan Hodge, who, in the absence of Chalmers, will now be the first choice stand off.

Beveridge is certain to be named today as one of the replacements in the Scotland 21 to face Gauteng Falcons on Wednesday night at Brakpan and will surely be given a run out.

Also a certainty for the game on Wednesday will be the Watsonian pair, centre Jamie Mayer and blind side flanker Cameron Mat her.

There is some doubt over full back Derrick Lee and lock Andy Lucking who have both been hit by a stomach bug.
