An extraordinary general meeting of Lahinch golf club on Saturday last decided almost unanimously to restore the famous links to the system introduced by the great golf course designer, Dr Alister McKenzie, 72 years ago. "This is the most significant decision taken in over 70 years of the history of Lahinch," said the club's captain Martin Barrett. Course architect Martin Hawtree will introduce two new holes and others will be lengthened. There will also be new safety provisions. The work will be carried out over a five-year period, so as to minimise the disruption to play at the course, and will cost approximately £1 million.
