WOMEN'S HOCKEY:The draw for the third round of the ESB Irish Senior Cup on Saturday proved less than kind to Pegasus, Hermes and Loreto, the clubs, who, between them, have won the competition in 11 of the last 13 years, all given away ties.

Pegasus, though, won't have far to travel, having been paired with their Belfast neighbours Harlequins, while Loreto won't have to leave Dublin, with Serpentine Avenue the venue for their testing tie against last season's beaten finalists Pembroke Wanderers, the leaders in the Leinster first division.

Hermes, however, must travel north for their tie against Ards.

In Saturday's second round, Sarah Clarke, once again, scored a decisive goal for Pembroke, her second-half effort proving enough to beat Bandon.

But both Dublin college sides, Trinity and UCD, went out of the competition. Margaret Ryan got the golden goal winner in extra time that gave Ashton a 3-2 win over Trinity, while Hannah McMillan's 14th minute goal for Victorians gave the Ulster side victory over UCD.

A double from Sinead Dooley helped Railway Union on their way to a 4-2 defeat of North Down, and they will next play Armagh, the second round's top scorers with a 5-0 win over Knock.

Meanwhile, Hermes and Loreto could only draw in their league games on Saturday. Corinthians fought back for a 3-3 with Hermes and Loreto needed a second-half equaliser from Cathy McKean after Louise Murphy had given Old Alexandra the lead from a short corner in the first minute of the game.
