Schools rugby/Blackrock College 30 Belvedere 3:Blackrock College sent out a stern warning to future opponents with a very impressive display in yesterday's Leinster Junior Cup tie played at Leinster Branch headquarters.

Belvedere had put it up to Blackrock from the kick-off, an early push by the pack resulting in a penalty in front of the posts on three minutes.

Belvedere outhalf James Harte converted but Blackrock responded with a kick from a similar angle from centre Seán Barron three minutes later.

After a Belvedere attack had broken down at half-way, Blackrock gained a foothold in the Belvedere 22 with eight minutes gone. Gathering possession from the lineout, the Blackrock pack sent number eight David Walsh over for a try to the left of the posts.

Belvedere should have had a try of their own but spilled possession under the Blackrock posts. The warning heeded, Blackrock finished the half with tries from captain Jack Kelly and Darren Westman to leave it 18-3 at the break.

Belvedere's chances suffered another blow when Andrew Conway showed pace to put further daylight between the two, and by the time Westman crossed for his second try, the Belvedere challenge was well and truly vanquished.
