Blackrock College took control of this Leinster Schools Junior Cup tie with two tries in the first four minutes at Donnybrook yesterday.
Blackrock ... 59
St Gerard's ... 7
St Gerard's put a brave face on it, and pinned their opponents back for a major part of the second half but the physically stronger Blackrock team wore down the Bray side in the end, and late tries sent the scoreline out of all proportion.
The onslaught started with tries from hooker Cian Culleton and right wing Killian Stafford. The next four touchdowns originated from close-in lineouts with blindside Zach Farivatz (2), Culleton and openside Mark Lynch all scoring. Full back Robert Boles closed out the half for a 35-0 lead.
After the break, Stafford surged over in the 36th minute. But, thereafter, St Gerard's knuckled down and were rewarded with a try by Zach Desmond converted by Robbie Morrison.
In a final Blackrock offensive centre Rory Keaveny and left wing Finn McAleer (2) added tries, two of which were converted by Martin Egan. Blackrock now meet Terenure in the quarter-finals.
