Cork City - 1 Bohemians - 2 Champions Bohemians gained revenge for an early-season 3-2 defeat to Cork City when they came away from Turner's Cross with all three points last night in an exciting finish to the game.

The match was played in wet conditions but it did not affect Bohemians' fast-flowing football as they showed they are right back in the championship race.

In a poor opening period Cork's right-side midfielder Kevin Doyle went close twice, first with a shot from the edge of the penalty area going just wide and then when he showed pace to dance past the Bohemians defence before shooting inches wide of Shay Kelly's left-hand goalpost.

But then Bohemians struck for a fine opening goal. Referee Paul McKeon played advantage after Robbie Doyle was fouled 35 yards from goal, Fergal Harkin crossed from the end line and Dave Morrison scored from close range, shooting past Cork goalkeeper Michael Devine who was playing his 100th league game for the club.

Ten minutes after half-time the visitors' goalkeeper Kelly was booked when he brought down Colm T O'Brien on the edge of the penalty area, before Stephen Kenny's side went two goals in front.

Republic of Ireland international Glen Crowe headed on a ball from defence for Doyle to score his sixth Premier Division goal of the season as he fired a shot past Devine from inside the area.

The home side, who had to line out without injured top scorer John O'Flynn and centre back Derek Coughlan, brought on Liam Kearney for his debut at half-time.

The Corkman, who has returned after three years with Nottingham Forest, ensured a grandstand finish when he reduced the arrears on 73 minutes. The former Republic of Ireland under-19 international blasted home from the edge of the penalty area after the Bohemians defence had cleared a corner.

So Bohemians, who defeated Drogheda in the FAI Cup on Tuesday night, in front of 4,500 supporters showed they will be chasing both their championship crown and FAI Cup over the next two months.
