Bohemians lifted by high-flying Crowe

Derry City... 0 Bohemians..

Derry City ... 0 Bohemians ... 3 Bohemians extended their lead at the top of the Premier Division to 11 points following an excellent display against Derry City at the Brandywell last night. And a major influence on this victory was the surprise inclusion of striker Glen Crowe, who made his international debut for the Republic Ireland in Athens 24 hours earlier.

Indeed it was Crowe who sent Bohemians on their way with a 36-minute penalty. With Derry under pressure, a Colin Hawkins header crashed off the crossbar before Paddy McLaughlin was adjudged to have handled inside the area.

Crowe stepped up to send the ball high into the net, giving Alan Gough no chance.

Stephen Kenny's side doubled their lead one minute before the break. On this occasion a defensive header dropped into the path of Bobby Ryan and he let fly from 20 yards, sending the ball over the head of Gough and into the net.

Two minutes after the break Bohemians ended the game as a contest when Derek Coughlan was given the freedom of the Derry penalty area to powerfully head home Ryan's corner.

The home side battled on but their only scoring chance centred on a 58th minute snap-shot from Ciaran Martyn, which whistled narrowly wide of the post.
