Galway United were brought back down to earth last night at Dalymount Park when they went down 3-0 to reigning champions Bohemians.

Having secured a record 8-0 win over Monaghan United last week, Tony Mannion's side were undone by a lightning start from Bohemians.

Two goals in the first eight minutes from Trevor Molloy and Glen Crowe put Bohemians firmly in the driving seat before the third was added seven minutes from time when Trevor Fitzpatrick scored his first goal for the club, volleying home a superb Molloy cross.

However, Galway had their chances to put themselves back in the game as Alan O'Shaughnessy headed against the crossbar, while Darragh Sheridan missed two great close-range chances in the second half.

Galway had come into the game under the guidance of caretaker boss Mannion who had guided them to that record eight-goal victory the previous week. And the confidence gained by that record win was in evidence as the visitors began brightly, creating the first opening after just three minutes when Mark Herrick found space 20 yards out, but he drilled his shot straight at Michael Dempsey who had the simplest of saves.

But Galway were to be rocked firmly back on their heels with Bohemians scoring twice inside as many minutes and that with only eight minutes gone on the clock.

Galway's Billy Clery and O'Shaughnessy could have forced the visitors back into contention before the break but were narrowly off target with their respective headers.

To their credit the noisy Galway travelling supporters remained eternally optimistic, chanting that their side would win 8-2, but Fitzpatrick was to have the final say with Bohemians' third seven minutes from time.
