ATHLETICS:USAIN BOLT will miss this month's Diamond League meet in Monaco due to a "slight problem", the sprinter's coach has confirmed.
The Jamaican has just secured his London 2012 place at the national trials, although he had to settle for second place in both the 100 metres and 200m behind Yohan Blake.
Bolt is still favourite to retain gold in both events at the Olympics but his preparation for the Games appears to have suffered a setback after his coach Glen Mills revealed he has a problem that will keep him out of the upcoming meet in Monaco.
Mills did not give any details as to what the problem is.
Posting through Bolt’s WhoSay account, Mills said: “Arising from Usain’s participation at the National Trials in Kingston this past weekend where he had a slight problem, after careful assessment I have had to withdraw him from the Samsung Diamond League Meeting in Monaco on July 20th to give him sufficient time for treatment and time to train and prepare for the Olympic Games in London.”
Bolt himself did mention the “problem” as he spoke of making the Jamaican team for the Games.
“I am happy to have earned my spot on the Jamaican Olympic team despite the challenge,” he said.
“I will be in London to defend my titles in the 100, 200 and 4x100 metres.
“I want to congratulate my fellow Racers Track Club Members along with the other athletes who made the team. I thank everyone for their support.”
