Leicester's Frank Sinclair slammed his side's diabolical performance against Premiership new boys Bolton - and laid into Foxes fans already chanting for the head of manager Peter Taylor.

City were torn apart as the Division One play-off winners amazingly roared into a 4-0 interval lead at Filbert Street, continuing the home side's awful form at the end of last season.

Taylor's men lost nine out of 10 matches then and opened the new campaign on a massive downer as Sam Allardyce's side gave them a lesson in finishing.

Kevin Nolan looped a great header over goalkeeper Tim Flowers for the opener after 15 minutes, and after Michael Ricketts almost ripped the net with a powerful finish, the midfielder pounced on a loose ball to crack home Bolton's third. Per Frandsen rifled home the fourth from an 18-yard free-kick on the stroke of half-time and added a late second from another set-piece.

Sinclair's verdict was: "It was a bit of a freak show. I don't know what happened. We weren't ourselves, we didn't penetrate the way we normally do and didn't win the ball the way we normally do.

"We knew what they were going to do they were going to get people behind the ball and play with one up front. The goals went in, and the more confident they got, they let players get forward more and ended up playing with three up front.

"We were confident enough to go out there thinking we were going to win it. We didn't pass the ball quick enough and didn't defend well. We deserved the result.

"Sometimes you can have too good a pre-season. Everything's been perfect in pre-season and all the games have gone really well. The boys have gone into the game expecting to win and we're very, very surprised by the result." Wanderers' jubilant 2,000-strong travelling support began mock `Taylor out' chants at the end of an exhilarating first-half, and the 18,000 home fans followed suit as they streamed out of the ground before the full-time whistle.
