A former Mayo minor footballer may be drafted in by Connacht this week as Michael Bradley's injury-ravaged side take on Bath in the European Challenge Cup on Friday at the Sportsground.

Peter Durcan (20), who is on a development contract with the province, also played soccer for Glentoran FC and Sligo Rovers.

A product of the Ballina club, the outhalf excelled with Cistercian College, Roscrea, and went on to be capped at under-19 level for Ireland. A series of injuries has brought Durcan into the reckoning with at least five backs - David Slemen, Gavin Williams, Matt Mostyn, Keith Matthews and Tom Tierney - unlikely to be available for selection.

"We have quite a few injuries but this will allow other players to come into the reckoning. Peter will be one of these," said Bradley. Connacht are expected to name their squad today with the side being finalised tomorrow.
