TERENURE COLLEGE marched on to the quarter final of the Leinster Schools' Senior Cup courtesy of this systematic demolition of Presentation Bray, at Donnybrook, yesterday.

Twenty minutes had elapsed, and Terenure left wing Paul Meade had just kicked his side in front from a 38 metre penalty, when a rather harsh decision from referee Gerry Maher shifted the momentum very much in Terenure's favour.

Successive drives close in from prop John Campbell and number eight Donnacha O Donohoe had tied in the Presentation Bray back row. Then, seeing an opening, scrum half Barry Healy opted to move the ball.

Receiving it at full pace interprovincial centre Eamon Travers caught direct opponent Fergal Byrne unawares and as Travers flew through a gap on Byrne's inside, up came Byrne's foot - more a reflex action than an outright cynical trip.

Although it seemed Travers was covered by the oncoming Bray defence, referee Maher saw things differently. He duly awarded a penalty try. Meade converted from under the posts and suddenly Presentation Bray had a mountain to conquer.

However, they struck back when Terenure were deemed to be offside at a ruck on their own 22 as Bray swarmed forward. Number eight David Denver slotted the 24th minute penalty in front of the post.

At a line out 15 metres from the Bray line, however, O'Donohoe tapped down for second row Barry Doyle to drive into the heart of the defence. Making good use of this, inside centre Ross O'Connor darted over beside the posts.

Leading 17-3 at the interval, Terenure applied early second half pressure and this resulted in Meade stretching their lead from a penalty after the Presentation Bray defence failed to deal with full back Matthew Dowling's Garryowen, which admittedly took a favourable bounce on the 22 metre line.

Midway through the half, intricate inter passing between Travers, scrum half Healy and Meade brought play 10 metres from the losers' line. Fly half John English attempted to bulldoze his way over, but, stopped short, he released for Travers to gain possession. Wing forward Andy Lamont took over from here and somehow managed to wriggle over. The reliable Meade converted.

The best was kept until last when hooker Simon Elkinson finished off an eight man move in the right corner.
