SURPRISINGLY competitive for an end-of-season game with nothing but pride at stake for both sides, FAI Cup finalists Shelbourne were made to fight for their point by relegated but determined Bray.

In the 34th minute, Mark Rutherford, collecting Dessie Baker's ball in from the right, nutmegged Derek O'Rourke only for the inexperienced Bray defender to take him down with a two footed challenge. Tony Sheridan shot home the spot kick.

Almost typically, Shelbourne were caught napping within two minutes of the restart when Bray struck for their equaliser. Bray players seemed to be queuing up for Pat O'Brien's cross from the right and Danny Horan drove the ball home from the back post.
