AIRTRICITY LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION Derry City1 Bray Wanderers 1:BRAY WANDERERS continue to enjoy a magnificent run having held Derry City in front of 1,800 spectators at the Brandywell last night. And, if the truth be told, Pat Devlin's side could so easily have won thanks to a dominant second-half display playing with the wind.
Having gone close with two free-kicks during the opening 20 minutes, Derry looked to be in control. They broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when a superb pass from Eamon Zayed sent James McClean clear on the left. His centre into the penalty area presented the unmarked Patrick McEleney with the easiest of goals.
Derry can thank goalkeeper Gerard Doherty who pulled off a super stop in the 43rd minute to deny Bray striker John Mulroy.
However, after the break it was Bray who moved into the ascendancy. In the 55th minute Derry’s Barry Molloy, who was deployed at centre-back due to the suspension of Shane McEleney, was forced to head the ball off the goal-line.
Devlin’s side deservedly equalised in the 67th minute. With the home side failing to clear the lines, the ball was worked forward to Daire Doyle and his superb strike found the top corner of the net.
Mulroy was unlucky not to put Bray into the lead in the 69th minute after Molloy had been caught out with a high ball. And while he appeared to be chasing a lost cause, the striker managed to get his head to the ball before Doherty fisted the danger clear.
