PADDY O'HARA, one of the most versatile GAA men who took up broadcasting after a varied career as a player and manager, has retired. His distinctive voice has been well known to radio listeners to both BBC Northern Ireland and RTE for many years.

From the Ardoyne O'Connell's club, O'Hara made his debut for Antrim footballers as a 16-year-old in 1941, and was a regular member of the team for several years. He coached Queen's University for almost 20 years.

Before he took up broadcasting, O'Hara coached six Ulster counties Antrim, Armagh, Derry, Donegal, Down and Fermanagh.
