All-Ireland VS SHC final/ St Brogan's, Bandon 3-15; St Brigid's, Loughrea 2-7: St Brogan's completed an historic All-Ireland Vocational Schools double by adding the hurling title to their football crown in a one-sided final at Leahy Park, Cashel, yesterday.
The Cork side overwhelmed the defending champions, who were striving for five-in-a-row, in a decider which was over as a contest long before the finish.
Aided by the wind in the first half, St Brogan's led by 0-12 to 0-3 at the interval. They completely dominated the second quarter, scoring 0-8 without reply as the Canty brothers, Brian and Kevin, and Danny O'Callaghan, pointed the way with some fantastic shooting.
St Brigid's went 18 minutes without a score before Maurice Callanan pointed a free in the second minute of injury time.
Any hopes of a revival, however, were dashed within six minutes of the resumption. Captain Brian Canty pointed a free from half-way in the opening seconds and then brother Kevin turned provider for Donal O'Driscoll to score the first goal two minutes later and O'Callaghan to add the second after 36 minutes for a 2-15 to 0-3 lead.
Full-forward James Skehill put some gloss on the scoreboard with a St Brigid's goal nine minutes from the end only for St Brogan's to respond almost immediately with O'Callaghan cracking home his second goal.
