SLIGO ROVERS and Shamrock Rovers each secured a point which should guarantee their Premier Division survival in an entertaining encounter at the Showgrounds on Saturday night.

The Hoops came from behind to earn a share of the spoils after Sligo had taken an early lead. The Dubliners had much the better of the second half and might have won convincingly but for an excellent goalkeeping display by Nicky Broujos.

Sligo began at a cracking pace and their early pressure was rewarded when the inform Leo Thew headed home from Tony Kelly's corner kick in the 16th minute.

Shamrock Rovers gave warning of their intentions just a minute later when a piledriver by Aaron Lynch came back off the crossbar.

Broujos produced excellent saves either side of the break to deny Derek Treacy and Tony Cousins before thee deserved equaliser arrived in the 59th minute. Cousins created the opening with a strong run down the lefty and the in rushing Pat Fenlon applied the finish.
