Golf Digest: CHALLENGE TOUR: Stephen Browne saw his string of recent, quality performances come to an abrupt end during the second round of the Skandia PGA Open at the Arlandastad Golf Club, Stockholm, yesterday.
The Dubliner carded a seven over par 77 to finish with a five over par halfway total of 145 which meant he missed the cut.
Browne had been playing some of his best golf of the European Challenge Tour season until then, and won his first event as a professional last week at the Norwegian Challenge Open.
WOMEN'S AMATEUR: Cork's Claire Coughlan left her best until last in the British Open strokeplay championship at Alwoodley, Leeds yesterday.
After two dismal rounds which left Coughlan struggling to make the halfway cut - she got through by just a stroke - the Irish international produced a couple of solid displays for a pair of 74's to propel herself up the field. She finished in joint 12th place with an aggregate of 305.
There was a dramatic ending with Scot Clare Queen winning in a sudden-death play-off after she, Shelley McKevitt and Stephanie Evans all finished on 294. Queen won with a birdie three at the first extra hole.
Tipperary's Marion Riordan finished on 309 after taking 75 and 83 yesterday while Gillian O'Leary finished on 323 after rounds of 86 and 85.
BOYS GOLF: Ulster won the Golfsure Boys' Interprovincial Championship title from treble-chasing Munster with a whirlwind singles show at Warrenpoint GC yesterday.
Munster edged into a 2-1 lead after the morning foursomes but, in the afternoon, the hosts pressed the power pedal to win the singles 5-1 for an overall 6-3 victory.
