National Football League Division Two B/ Tipperary 3-8 Sligo 1-9: Tenacious Tipperary torpedoed lacklustre Sligo in the second half of this mediocre game at Markievicz Park yesterday.

Declan Browne was the architect of two second-half goals, pumping long-range frees high into the Sligo goalmouth for Eamon Hanrahan and Damian O'Brien to finish in the 42nd and 65th minutes.

Sligo opened the first-half scoring with points by Padraic Doohan and Seán Davey before Declan Browne replied for the visitors in the 6th minute.

Tipperary were rocked on 15 minutes when a Shane Stenson shot appeared to take a deflection off a defender before ending up in the net to give Dom Corrigan's side a five-point cushion.

Brian Mulvihill drilled the ball to the Sligo net two minutes before half-time after goalkeeper Philip Green misjudged the flight of the ball to reduce Sligo's lead to 1-5 to 1-4.

Mark Breheny converted a free before Hanrahan's goal put Tipperary ahead for the first time. Sligo then went 22 minutes without scoring.

A point separated the teams when O'Brien bagged Tipperary's third goal and points by Browne and Neil Fitzgerald clenched a deserved win for Séamus McCarthy's men.
