Bruised Pembroke glad to be home

There is unlikely to be much change in the Leinster Senior League this weekend

There is unlikely to be much change in the Leinster Senior League this weekend. Defending champions Pembroke Wanderers, though bruised by Glenanne in both the league and Neville Cup, will be glad to be home again, taking on Railway Union, whom they beat 3-1 at the start of the season.

Railway are only marginally short of the finishing touches which would earn them more points than they have collected. Again, they may find Pembroke building up the greater volume of attacks. Darren Hanna, who scored twice in Wanderers' 4-3 extra-time defeat by Glenanne on Wednesday, could ensure a more fruitful dividend tomorrow.

Glenanne, meanwhile, will be confident of adding to their rich goal-haul at the expense of UCD at St Mark's while Corinthians (the third team sharing the top rung of the table) will also be hoping that their Tasmanian striker Colin Stewart will continue to hit the target for Avoca's visit to Whitechurch Park. Well aware of this threat, though, Avoca will take some preventative measures to keep Stewart out of range.

The overall outcome may depend to a degree on whether the Blackrock club - with their Irish Senior Cup interest crushed by Cork C of I - send a full-strength second XI to Newry to start the defence of the Junior Cup.
