The remarkable career of Nick Brujos, Sligo Rovers' veteran goalkeeper, expanded into another surprising chapter yesterday when he was named Opel Player of the Month for February.
It is testimony to a productive spell for club and player in which Sligo won the League Cup in the course of extending their unbeaten run to 16 games and Brujos proved that, even at 36, he is still one of the most athletic goalkeepers in the country.
Brujos, who also works as Sligo's commercial manager, has been effectively 'retired' by three managers at different times. And on each occasion, his response has been to return even stronger.
Born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, but now a naturalised Irishman, Brujos has had a varied career here, taking in spells with Bray Wanderers, TEK United, Shelbourne and St Patrick's Athletic before arriving in Sligo nine years ago.
