In the 12th minute, outhalf Colm Glynn kicked his first of three penalties for Buccaneers and Garryowen hooker Pat Humphries was sin-binned three minutes later for a high tackle on Ian Dillon.

Munn had the first Buccs try in the 20th minute and the home side led by 16-3 after Billy Treacy had kicked the losers' only score of the first half five minutes before the interval.
